Microsoft is working to provide more security to Windows and to eliminate the use of NTLM for Windows authentication.
Microsoft is adding new features to the Kerberos. Microsoft is actively working to improve user authentication (Windows security).
Kerberos has been the default Windows authentication protocol but in some cases, it was ineffective resulting in Windows resorting to NTLM (New Technology LAN Manager).
Microsoft is working on two new features of Kerberos, The first feature is Initial and Pass thorough authentication using Kerberos and the second feature is a local Key Distribution Center (KDC).
Microsoft says it is developing management controls so that administrators can track and block NTLM usage.
Gadgets running on Windows 11 will shortly be updated with Initial and Pass through Authentication Using Kerberos functionality.
