OSIRIS-REx launched in September 2016 and arrived at asteroid Bennu in December 2018. NASA's OSIRIS-REx is returning the mission after 7 years
On September 24, NASA's first asteroid sample will land in the Utah desert on the Department of Defense's Teat and Training Range.
The mission aims to collect the sample from near-Earth asteroid 101955 Bennu and after that bring the sample to Earth.
Lockheed Martin Space System has designed the OSIRIS-REx. The sample return capsule arrives on the Earth on September 25, at Johnson.
The cost of the mission OSIRIS-REx is expected to be $1.16 billion. Near about $772 million was spent on spacecraft development and its launching vehicle.
The meaning of the name OSIRIS-REx is taken from the Egyptian God- OSIRIS and REx- Regolith Explorer. (REX means King in Latin)
